Dry sow house on an existing pig unit, 27.4m long, 13.7m wide, 3m high to eaves. Five bays split into sixteen pens for sow accommodation. The sixth bay open, for storing straw.
The roof cladding on the building is composite sheets, consisting of PVC coated box profile steel sheets and 40mm thick insulation. The ridge is specially designed to allow ventilation. The vertical cladding on the gable ends is lapped, tanalised timber boards. The two sides have a variable ventilation system, which is temperature controlled, to improve animal welfare.
The building has a central raised section, for storing straw, along the length, to ease management and handling, when bedding the pens.
An automated feed system has been installed with an external bulk store and individual feed hoppers along each side of the building.
